Opponent Wanted Campaign Leipzig or Waterloo or Peninsular War (Closed)

Post by Allan Hearne » 18 Apr 2020 17:22

Hi guys, I'd like a PBEM game of Campaign Leipzig, Campaign Waterloo, or Bonaparte's Peninsular War. I'm up for any scenario and happy to play either side. I can play several turns a week and could do more now we are all quarantined.

Greetings, Allan, I'd love to play the historical scenario of 'Waterloo and Wavre' or 'Quatre-Bras and Ligny;' or perhaps the whole Waterloo campaign in one battle (the latter is huge, I admit). Some form of 'embedded melee' is a must for me, while 'retreat overruns' are out of the question... Other options (multiple melees, op fire against skirmishers... etc.) are negotiable. I'd rather be the Allies, but can play the French, too. I'm afraid, though, that I can't play more than two turns a week, in spite of the quarantine, since I'm a busy man with my regular 'home office' job and two little kids at home... If you don't mind, send a courier to my camp...

Greetings Alan,
I always open for to play the Peninsular War for the Spanish side.
But with my R&H House Rules only. :ugeek:
The shortest variant:
1) No unit stacks on the road march, the exception: Art.battery/Train + Inf.Co./Cav.Sqn. as escort;
2) Cavalry Regiment may move along ways by Squadrons only, and by divisions (2-3 Sqns) elsewhere;
3) no more than 1,300 infantrymen or 250 horsemen in one open space hex (this is the physical limits for a hex space of 100mX100m) ;
4) no Infantry units in Line order in Village/Town hexes;
5) Infantry may attack with fire on ANY Cavalry from the maximal range only, if the cavalry unit persist and do not leave their position then Infantry may attack from the minimal range, the exceptions: skirmishers in orchards, woods and towns, and surprise encounters; (we ought to give Cav. the chance: using its mobility and speed, they could brake contact with the enemy's Inf. and leave its fire zone - just as it could happen in reality)
6) disordered unit may attack/advance with presence of a leader only (Disordered unit is just a mob, and they have not the common will for advancing) .

Vladimir: Thank you for responding. I'd like to play but I must pass on using your proposed additional rules. I'd forget the different max in a hex counts you propose. I prefer to keep my cav in regiments and while 250 may be how many horses can be in a 100 yard hex, it would ruin cav charge outcomes which likely are based on the number of cav charging. While inf in towns probably wouldn't actually form lines, they would occupy every door and window, pile up stuff to get behind, load for each other, and generally bring as many guns to bear as possible..more similar to a line's fire power. Finally, while disordered units may not have a leader unit in a hex, there are certainly all kinds of leaders in the unit that could step up to the plate and lead the way.

Very sorry, my lord.
Yes, I prefer the extremely realistic and historical way of gaming.
Now, I play in both NWC and TWS 6 campaigns and 2 single games simultaneously in parallel.
And all of them with my R&H house rules, and part of them with the whole set of rules (30 clauses), and everybody is happy with it. Who has not tried it, he is inclined to overestimate their complexity. My main game rule is: not to do things that could not happen in realities of the Napoleonic wars' battlefield, and I do not do a lot of things the HPS engine allows us to do, because they are unrealistic or unhistorical. I get my pleasure not because of a game result but from the process, as much realistic and historical as better, that is why I hate the so named 'sporty style' which is so popular in our club.
Ok, good luck to you on your fields of glory.
